Example prompts for the GitDailies MCP Server
Once your assistant is connected, ask it questions in plain language. Here are some ideas to start with.
Your day
- “What’s waiting for my review? Oldest first.”
- “Which of my open PRs have been open more than three days?”
- “Did any of my GitDailies alerts trigger since yesterday?”
- “Draft my standup update from what I merged and reviewed yesterday, and what’s still open.”
Your team
- “How many PRs are open right now, by repo? Which have waited longest for a first review?”
- “Compare PR pickup time across our teams over the last eight weeks.”
- “Is our review load balanced? Show reviews submitted per person this month.”
- “How many PRs were merged without approval last month, and which were they?”
Trends and investigations
- “Show weekly PR lifetime for the last quarter, excluding weekends in Europe/London.”
- “PR lifetime jumped in the week of 8 September. Which PRs caused it?”
- “Are our PRs getting bigger? Show PR size by month this year, ignoring bots.”
- “Which repo has the slowest review time, and is it getting better or worse?”
DORA
- “Give me our four DORA metrics by month for the last six months.”
- “Which deploys failed last month, and how long did the incidents take to resolve?”
- “Lead time for change spiked in August. List the slowest PRs behind it.”
Tips
- Name the period and bucket size. “By week for the last 12 weeks” gets you a clearer answer than “recently”.
- Ask why. When a number looks off, ask your agent to drill down. It can list the exact PRs, reviews, or deploys behind any data point.
- Use your team, repo, and label names. Your agent can filter and split results by any of them.
- Let the agent combine sources. If your assistant is also connected to tools such as Slack or Jira, ask it to turn GitDailies data into a retro summary, a status update, or a ticket.
